Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy with Jennifer Stone, LCSW-R
Getting Started
-
Call me at (732) 492-8430 or complete the consultation form on my contact page. We will set up a brief consultation to talk about what is bringing you to therapy and whether my approach is a good fit. If it is, we schedule your intake session.
-
Yes. I offer a free 10-15 minute phone consultation so you can ask questions and get a feel for how I work before committing to anything.
-
Therapy with me starts with data, not guesswork. Your first session is an in-depth intake, and I will ask you to complete a few short questionnaires. These show us exactly where you are starting from, help us build a plan around your goals, and let us measure progress as we go.
From there, I will ask a variety of questions about your background, your strengths, interests and what makes you ‘you.’ In the next session, we will create a plan collaboratively based on the problems and goals bringing you to therapy with recommendations as needed. I will explain more about what CBT is, your diagnosis upon request and evidence based recommendations.
-
I work with older adolescents age 18 and up at many stages of life, from college and graduate students and young professionals to people in midlife balancing careers, children and aging parents. Many of my clients are high achievers in demanding roles who know something is not working and want real progress.
-
CBT is a good fit if you want a structured, active approach and are willing to practice skills between sessions. If you want to understand what is behind your struggles and then do something about it, CBT is built for that. We can talk through whether it suits your situation during the consultation.
-
If my specialty is not the best match for what you need, I will tell you honestly and point you toward providers or resources that are a better fit.
-
No two treatment plans look alike. I will start with what you want to change, what's making life hard, and what you're already good at, then build the work around that. Your input matters, so expect plenty of questions and check-ins to make sure we've understood you correctly.
This work can be uncomfortable. I will encourage you to stretch beyond what's familiar, with real compassion for how hard that can feel.
In any given session, we might question long-held beliefs about yourself or the world, try a short guided mindfulness exercise, explore your personal values and how well your daily life reflects them, or talk about how things are going between you and I. That last one can be surprisingly useful, since the patterns you experience with others sometimes show up in the therapy room too.
Each session has a plan including reviewing the previous session so that there is continuity, a mood check in, considering what went well this week and noting the challenges, any goals for the session and a review of practice between sessions.
Fees, Insurance and Payment
-
My fee is commensurate with years of experience, expertise and comparable to other providers in the area. Please call or complete a consultation request and we can discuss this.
-
I am a private pay, out-of-network provider. I accept the full payment and can bill insurance directly as a courtesy to you for all health plans outside of United. Many clients are able to get a portion of their fees reimbursed through their out-of-network benefits.
-
Often, yes. I can provide a bill after each session or a monthly superbill, which you submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Before starting, I recommend calling your insurer and asking: Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? What is my deductible, and how much of it is met? What percentage of a session will be reimbursed? Is pre-authorization required?
-
Working outside insurance means your treatment plan, session frequency and length of treatment are decided by you and me, not by an insurance company. It also means no diagnosis has to be shared with your insurer unless you choose to submit for reimbursement.
-
Therapy with a licensed clinician is usually an eligible expense for HSA and FSA accounts. Check with your plan administrator to confirm.
-
Zelle associated with my email- jennifer@jstonetherapy.com. I keep a credit card for emergencies. Payment is due at the time of each session.
-
I require 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged the full fee.
