Stress Management
Ongoing stress can leave you tense, exhausted, and overwhelmed. CBT helps you change the thoughts and habits that amplify stress, build practical problem-solving and coping skills, and feel more in control of your day-to-day life.
What does CBT for stress management look like?
CBT for stress management is a practical, skills-based approach that helps you change the thoughts and habits that amplify stress. Rather than only trying to eliminate stressors, which is often not possible, you learn to respond to them in ways that feel more manageable and sustainable.
Identifying stress triggers and patterns. You learn to recognize the situations, thoughts, and physical signals that set off or intensify stress, so you can respond earlier and more deliberately.
Challenging stress-amplifying thoughts. You examine catastrophic predictions (“I can’t handle this”), perfectionistic rules, and all-or-nothing thinking, and develop more balanced, realistic perspectives.
Building problem-solving skills. You break overwhelming problems into manageable steps, weigh options, and act on what is within your control, while learning to let go of what is not.
Setting priorities and boundaries. You practice time management, saying no, delegating, and balancing responsibilities, which helps reduce overload and burnout.
Using relaxation and coping skills. You learn techniques to calm the body and mind, such as paced breathing and muscle relaxation, and build routines for sleep, activity, and recovery that make you more resilient.
